President Kiir Rallies Citizens To Embrace Peace And Unity As New Officials Take Oath

JUBA, JANUARY 21, 2026 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged citizens to work toward achieving peace across the nation. The President spoke during the swearing-in of newly appointed government officials, where he emphasised strict adherence to the rule of law and institutional reforms.

The newly appointed officials include Aleu Ayieny Aleu, Minister of Interior; Ezekial Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Public Service and Human Resources Development; Anthony Lino Makana, Minister of Labour; and Sarah Nyanath Elijiah Yong, sworn in as Minister of Culture, Museums, and National Heritage.

At the state level, the President swore in Madhang Majok Meen as Governor of Lakes State and Deng Akuei Kak as Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State.

President Kiir directed the Minister of Interior to reorganise the police force to enforce the rule of law and curb criminality, enabling citizens to conduct their activities freely.

The Head of State further directed the Minister of Labour to protect the labour rights of hardworking citizens. The President also tasked the Minister of Public Service and Human Resources Development to accelerate public service reforms to ensure rightful employees receive fair benefits and recognition.

President Kiir charged the Governor of Lakes State to sustain current levels of security and stability, stressing peace at state level remains paramount to national cohesion and development.
